The fun I had this last weekend—I don’t think I’ve had that level or type of fun before now. This probably sounds like an opening line from an influencer’s promo video about an event where they are lying their asses off. This is not it. I had 100% fun. So, backstory: a few weeks back, I saw an ad on IG about Gathering 100, and I was so confused about what it was, so I checked their website out, signed in, and was waiting for whatever it was. Even from their website I couldn’t get what it was about, so I locked up and kept it moving. Then days later, I started seeing influencers post about partying for 100 hours. And I was like, “Okayyyy, sign me up,” and then later saw that it was just a party; there was going to be gaming, music production, fashion, spoken word, Market 100 & a cinema, for a 100-hour nonstop round-the-clock type of thing.
So I went on one of the days to check what it was really about. Mind you before then, I was already texting my friends and inviting them to go along with me. Different days with different friend groups. The first time I went I had to go back home because I didn’t plan on partying till dawn, just checking things out. Then the following day it was all night, and it was so lit. I’m writing this now, and I can’t really remember a lot of details anymore. Then on the last day it was for one of my favorite DJs, who was to perform. Dope Ceaser: She was excellent, brooooo. Mind you, other DJs also came for different days. And they were all good.
Aside from that it was a party and whatnot, it was also a campaign for MTN’s Live it 100, which also drew me to attend because I needed to see how they were going to execute it, and as someone that works in marketing, it was well-executed because it wasn’t just copy or a video that was shot or something else. It was an experience people lived on for 100 hours, which was basically what the campaign was: living life on 100, on your best and whatnot. I took two things away from it. The fun and the experience of a campaign rather than just writing copies and shooting commercial videos for it. Ohhh, and I didn’t mention it was 100% free. I mean, we still had to pay for some vendors that sold at the market, but it was free entrance, and some vendors even rendered free services on a first-come, first-served basis.
So this is a sign for you to Live it 100. And if you attended, please tell me in the comment what you think about it and what was memorable for you.
